Authenticity

Fully RISO printed, illustrated zine about the folk scene today.

We place enormous value on authenticity in folk, yet the harder we try to appear authentic, the harder the idea is to grasp. In this short essay, Mike Hankin looks at how we decide what counts as the real thing, why age, obscurity and lived experience can make something feel more authentic, and whether we might be better off worrying less about authenticity and paying more attention just to the things that people actually do.
